Professional Development: Seminars/Workshops

The IERG offers a range of professional development activities for teachers and educators from different educational environments: public and private schools, school boards, university education departments, museums, and others. The workshops and seminars available are either designed as part of our regular professional development program or they can be custom designed to meet an organization’s specific requirements. Professional development activities can range from 2-hour, half-day, full-day, 2-day workshops/seminars, to on-going year-long programs.

The IERG has conducted workshops and seminars in many countries around the world, and also in many places in North America. In recent years we have delivered workshops in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca,Romania, in T'bilisi, Georgia, in Salerno, Italy, in Barecelona, Spain, in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, Israel, in Saõ Paulo, Brazil, in Mexico City, Mexico, in Hong Kong and Beijing, China, in Oslo, Norway, in Stockholm and Falun, Sweden, in Oxford, London, Brighton, Cardiff, and Warwick, U.K., in Dublin, Limerick, and Ennis, Ireland, Enschade, Holland, Singapore, Melbourne, Perth, and Canberra, Australia, and many others, in addition to many sites across the U.S.A. and Canada.

In our introductory presentations and 2-hour workshop/seminar sessions, the general theory of Imaginative Education is described, and some of its main practical implications are explored. Half or full-day seminars/workshops provide, in addition to this introduction, opportunities to gain basic experience designing and planning imaginative lessons and units. These part-day or single-day sessions, are introductory, and should be seen as a sampler of what the program can offer. Larger scale workshops offer a more complete understanding of Imaginative Education theory and practical applications.

IERG’s larger scale workshops come in a number of forms. As an example, we offer intensive two-day workshops for people already somewhat familiar with IERG principles. The aim of these larger scale workshops is to provide a closer look at the underlying theoretical principles of Imaginative Education and to provide examples and experience in developing units and lessons using the principles. To date these two days workshops have been part of our annual pre-conference activities, but they can also be organized for interested teachers within a school, a school district, or at a cross-district level. IERG also offers a year-long implementation program for schools or school boards interested in adopting the principles of Imaginative Education. Typically these would involve twenty or so teachers who would take part over a year. This workshop assumes no knowledge of Imaginative Education principles to begin with. After an introductory session, IERG practitioners work with teachers to provide experience with the practical application of theoretical principles and to assist them in introducing these practices in their classrooms throughout the year. Fees

We would be pleased to discuss your individual needs with you and to develop a fee schedule that works with your annual development budget. Following are some standard rates to provide a guideline for your planning.

Fees are calculated on a 15 person minimum, 20 person maximum, for all workshops (minimum charge provided). For larger groups (20 to 40) discounted rates may be available. Fees do not include travel/lodging/food expenses.

A 10% non-refundable deposit is due at the time of booking the workshop; full payment must be received one month prior to the scheduled session.
