Summer Institute on Imaginative Education

This first biennial institute will take place in July 2008 and has an over-arching theme of "Achieving Educational Goals with Imagination". The goal in organizing this event, was to build on our previous conferences (link above) in such a way that we could respond to the ever growing number of requests for more focused sessions on Imaginative Education, as well as retaining the structure of previous conferences.

  • July 2008 - Achieving Educational Goals with Imagination

    July 7, 2008 – July 9, 2008

How can a focus on imagination help teachers, schools and districts achieve their educational goals?

Our focus for this event will be on educational practices that come to the fore once one takes the imagination seriously as a major learning tool. We invite practitioners and scholars, and those who are both, to bring their expertise and reflection about imaginative education to building a richer and more effective conception of education. Concern with the imagination is not merely a matter of techniques of teaching, nor of something belonging only to the arts, but is rather a key to more effective education across the curriculum. It is our aim for this event that we will contribute significantly to articulating a new and more adequate conception of education as a result of taking the imagination seriously.
